  • Instructors for race official seminars are appointed at the discretion of the appropriate committee based on:

    • the candidate's demonstrated expertise as a teacher
    • the candidate's depth of content-area knowledge
    • evaluation of the candidate by peer instructors and seminar participants
    • the candidate's suitability as a representative of US Sailing
  • Is this an initial or renewal certification?*
  • Race management seminar instructors must meet these guidelines:

    1. Candidates must meet all qualifications for initial and renewal appointments.
    2. Candidates must be approved by their Area Race Officer (ARO) and by the Race Officer Training and Certification Subcommittee (ROTC).
    3. Candidates agree to present the instructional material provided by US Sailing, and not to modify it without the approval of US Sailing.
    4. Candidates agree not to share, disseminate or reuse seminar materials.
    5. Candidates agree to consult with the ARO before scheduling a Basic Race Management Seminar, and with the Chair of the ROTC before scheduling an Advanced Race Management Seminar.
    6. Candidates agree to hold a minimum of one seminar a year (exemptions may be granted at the discretion of the ROTC Chair).
  • Judge seminar instructors must meet these guidelines:

    1. Candidates must meet all qualifications for initial and renewal appointments.
    2. Candidates must be approved by their Regional Administrative Judge (RAJ) and by the Judges Education, Training and Testing Subcommittee (JETTS).
    3. Candidates agree to present the instructional material provided by US Sailing, and not to modify it without the approval of US Sailing.
    4. Candidates agree not to share, disseminate or reuse seminar materials.
    5. Candidates agree to consult with the RAJ and the Club Judge Program Director before scheduling a Club Judge Seminar, and with the Chair of the JETTS before scheduling an Advanced Judge Seminar.
    6. Candidates agree to hold a minimum of one seminar a year (exemptions may be granted at the discretion of the JETTS Chair).
  • Umpire seminar instructors must meet these guidelines:

    1. Candidates must meet all qualifications for initial and renewal appointments.
    2. Candidates must be approved by the Umpires Committee.
    3. Candidates agree to present the instructional material provided by US Sailing, and not to modify it without the approval of US Sailing.
    4. Candidates agree not to share, disseminate or reuse seminar materials.
    5. Candidates agree to consult with the Umpires Committee before scheduling a Seminar.
    6. Candidates agree to hold a minimum of one seminar a year (exemptions may be granted at the discretion of the Umpires Committee Chair).
