  • Statement of Purpose
    The mission of the Nominating Committee is to nominate officers and board members to lead and oversee the management of US Sailing, the National Governing Body of sailing in the United States.  The nature of sailing has changed over the years including mandates by Congress and the USOPC. The committee is charged with recognizing candidates who are in sync with the current trends in sailing and are committed to improving the sport.  

    In 2026, there are five (5) seats open on the US Sailing Board of Directors. The general membership will elect four (4) at-large board member from a slate put forward by the Nominating Committee (term 2027-2030). The Sailor Athlete Council will nominate one (1) athlete board candidate for the remaining seat. Please see the US Sailing Bylaws for reference.

    All applications will be reviewed by the Nominating Committee. The selection process is based on many factors and all applicants will be notified regarding the status of their candidacy no later than August 2026.  If you have any questions, please contact the Nominating Committee by emailing electionquestions@ussailing.org

    As a US Sailing Board Member, you will be required to complete the SafeSport training program. In addition, Federal law requires all US Sailing Board Members act as mandatory reporters.
